First, we will do an ultrasound evaluation of the deep and superficial veins to determine whether you have venous insufficiency, and which veins are affected. Varicose veins is a common condition observed in practice whereby patients present with dilated, tortuous and elongated veins, especially on the legs. Spider Veins, sometimes called by their medical name, telangiectasia, are purple, blue, or reddish blemishes that typically affect the legs, arms, neck, and face. Spider veins do not require medical attention, although they may cause those affected to seek effective treatment for reducing the appearance of these spidery blemishes.
Cosmetic spider veins are treated with sclerotherapy, or with new devices using thermo coagulation. Spider veins usually will recur in most patients. This means that most patients need intermittent touch up to keep their legs looking good. Spider vein treatments are done for cosmetic reasons and are not covered by most insurance carriers.

There are several treatment options available for spider veins. While our office does not recommend the use use of popular IPL or Yag lasers to treat spider veins (they can cause unusual pigmentation of the skin that is often more noticeable than the veins themselves), we offer two excellent treatments. Cosmetic sclerotherapy shrinks the veins using a fine needle to inject medication directly into the vein. Though patients may require several treatments, sessions are quick and the patient can return to his or her normal activities immediately afterward.
